WHAT VOICE ARE YOU LISTENING TO?

Alright, ladies, we’re in Proverbs 2 today, and there’s something I don’t want us to miss: Wisdom doesn’t accidentally find us. We have to want it.

Solomon starts this chapter with words like receive, treasure, incline your ear, cry out, seek, and search. Those aren’t passive words. They sound like someone who is hungry for something. And I think that’s the question Proverbs 2 puts in front of us: How badly do we actually want God’s wisdom?

Because we are surrounded by voices all day long. Social media has a voice. Culture has a voice. Our friends have voices. Our emotions definitely have a voice. Our past has a voice. Fear has a voice. And if we aren’t careful, the loudest voice in our lives will become the one we listen to—even when it isn’t God’s.

Proverbs 2 tells us there is another way. Verse 6 says,

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

I love that. Wisdom comes from His mouth. So if I want wisdom, I have to get close enough to hear Him.

And here’s what really gets me: God isn’t hiding wisdom from us. Verse 5 says that when we seek it like silver and search for it like hidden treasure, we begin to understand the fear of the Lord and discover the knowledge of God.

But think about how we search for something valuable. If you lost your wedding ring, you wouldn’t casually glance around the room and say, “Oh well.” No. You’d move furniture, empty drawers, retrace your steps, and crawl around on the floor with your phone flashlight. Why? Because you know what it’s worth.

What if we pursued the wisdom of God like that? What if instead of asking God to bless decisions we’ve already made, we sought Him before we made them? Before sending the text, we asked for wisdom. Before responding in anger—wisdom. Before entering the relationship—wisdom. Before walking away—wisdom. Before making the purchase—wisdom. Before believing what someone said about us—wisdom. Before letting our emotions make the decision—wisdom.

Because God’s wisdom doesn’t just tell us what to do. It protects us.

Proverbs 2:10–11 says that when wisdom enters our hearts, discretion watches over us and understanding guards us. I need you to hear that. Sometimes the thing God tells you not to do isn’t Him withholding something from you. It’s Him guarding you.

Sometimes the relationship He tells you to walk away from is protection. Sometimes the door that doesn’t open is protection. Sometimes the conviction you feel before making a decision is protection. Sometimes wisdom says, Don’t go there. Don’t say that. Don’t respond yet. Don’t follow them. Don’t compromise here. And in the moment, wisdom may feel restrictive, but later you realize, God was protecting me.

The rest of Proverbs 2 talks about wisdom delivering us from crooked paths, people who delight in doing wrong, and relationships that pull us away from covenant and faithfulness. In other words, wisdom helps us recognize things that our feelings might otherwise convince us are okay. Because feelings are powerful—but they aren’t always wise.

And this is where Proverbs 2 gets personal. We can know Scripture and still ignore wisdom. We can underline verses, listen to sermons, post Bible quotes, and have all kinds of biblical information in our heads, but Solomon says wisdom has to enter our hearts. It has to become part of us. It has to change how we choose. Because the evidence that I value God’s wisdom isn’t how much I know. It’s how I live.

So today, maybe the question isn’t simply, Do I know what God says? Maybe the question is, Am I actually letting what God says lead me? Because every day, we are choosing which voice gets the final word.

Ladies, there are a lot of voices competing for that position, so choose carefully. God’s wisdom will sometimes challenge you. Sometimes correct you. Sometimes tell you no. Sometimes lead you somewhere you wouldn’t have chosen for yourself. But it will also guard you, preserve you, and keep your feet on the right path.

So seek it. Treasure it. Ask for it. And when God gives you wisdom, have the courage to actually follow it.

LET’S GET UNCOMFORTABLE

1.

Whose voice has been getting most of your attention lately? Is it God’s wisdom, your emotions, culture, friends, fear, or something else?

2.

Read Proverbs 2:4–5. What does God say happens when we seek His wisdom like we would search for something valuable?

3.

According to verses 7–8, what does God promise to do for those who walk faithfully with Him?

4.

Read verses 9–11. What begins to happen inside us when wisdom enters our hearts?

5.

According to verses 12–15, what kinds of paths and influences can God’s wisdom deliver us from?

Here’s the harder question:

Is there something in your life right now where you already know what wisdom is telling you to do—but you’ve been struggling to obey it?

ONE THING TO CARRY WITH YOU TODAY

God’s wisdom isn’t trying to keep something good from you. It may be keeping you from something you cannot see yet. Seek His voice before all the others, and when He speaks, trust Him enough to follow.

Thank you for reading the Word with me. Let it wreck you. Let it rescue you. And remember—you’re just a girl extravagantly loved by God, who desires to be loved by you. ♥️Kristi
